Council Approves Various Resolutions, Appointments, and Permits for Community Events

Oakland Council Approves Plan for Only Three Affordable Housing Units Amidst MAWA Agreement

MAWA mediated an agreement for 495 affordable units to be built over 10 years, but the town council approved plans to build only three of those units within the decade. Township planner Darlene Green stated that the remaining 492 units do not need to be satisfied with additional construction, basing this reduction on the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act. Similar towns, such as Montclair, are also attempting to reduce their fourth-round requirements, with Montville reportedly aiming for three units over the next decade and facing potential litigation. Concerns were raised about the town's infrastructure and education system's ability to handle the required housing.
