Resident Criticizes Board of Adjustment for Galrath LLC Extension, Cites Lack of Compliance and Public Input
Dave Tennyson discussed the Galrath LLC project, stating it has been a protracted issue for nearly 10 years. He criticized the Board of Adjustment for granting an extension when the developer had not met original resolution conditions, including breaking ground. He claimed the Board did not have full information due to the exclusion of public comment. He believes the project is flawed and that the developer has been granted excessive leeway, including a five-story building allowance which is now contrary to current town preferences for lower buildings.
Wayne Approves $3.025 Million Bond for New Fire Trucks
The council voted to adopt Ordinance 32, a bond ordinance appropriating $3,025,000 for the acquisition of two E1 fire apparatus, including equipment for fire company number four. The ordinance authorizes the issuance of bonds/notes totaling $2,875,873,750 for financing part of the appropriation. The purchase was necessitated by not buying a fire truck the previous year.
Councilman Calls Galrae LLC Property an 'Eyesore,' Demands Immediate Action on Compliance Issues
Councilman Petropolo addressed the Galrae LLC property issues, agreeing with concerns about its appearance and compliance. He noted that Commissioner Toth has repeatedly asked for inspections. He described the property as an 'eyesore' with overgrown weeds, a down silt fence, and ponding water creating a mosquito breeding ground, visible from Route 23. He believes the developer has had enough leeway and needs to maintain the property cleanly and safely. He questioned the Board of Adjustment's decision not to allow public comment and stated his belief that the developer has lied about project progression.
Wayne Considers Restrictions on Truck 'Jake Brakes' Due to Resident Complaints
The Public Safety Committee discussed complaints regarding the use of 'jake brakes' (engine compression brakes) by trucks on certain streets in the fourth ward. Residents have reported disturbances due to the noise. The committee is considering signage and enforcement to mitigate the issue, and will consult the legal department to ensure compliance with state laws.
Resident Argues for Local 'ICE' Resolution, Citing International Conflict Resolutions
Diane Seltzer read excerpts from Resolution 123, which affirmed support for Palestine and Israel and called for a ceasefire in Gaza. She compared this to the current request for a resolution protecting residents from ICE, arguing that if the council could pass resolutions on international conflicts, they should also pass one for local resident safety. She cited the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Predi as reasons why local protection is needed, despite Mayor Vergano's previous assertion that such a resolution would be 'window dressing.' She urged the council to consider the impact on residents, especially immigrants, and to 'do their job' by passing the resolution.
