Ramsey Secures Grants for Deer Study and Road/Sidewalk Improvements
Resolution 146 authorizes Ramsey, as the lead agent for 13 towns in Northwest Bergen, to enter into a grant agreement with the state for a deer density study. The grant covers 100% of the study's cost, providing a baseline for deer density in each participating town. This study is intended to help find solutions for the deer population, which strays across town lines. The county has declined to partner on this initiative. Resolution 158 authorizes a contract to Nimavi Group for the local aid infrastructure project around Tisdale School, including sidewalks, curb replacements, and pedestrian crossing signals. This project is fully funded by a \\$250,000 grant obtained by the borough. Resolution 159 authorizes a contract to Cleanup Inc. for the resurfacing of Shadyside Road, also fully funded by grants exceeding the construction bid.
Ramsey Approves 3.62% Increase in Water Usage Fees Effective September 1st
Ordinance 18-2026 was introduced, which amends chapter 19 of the borough code regarding fees for water usage. The Board of Public Works approved a recommendation to increase water usage fees by 3.62% effective September 1st. This increase is attributed to rising costs for water quality testing, monitoring, and treatment, while maintaining compliance with federal and state requirements. Ramsey has had no drinking water violations in several years, and annual water quality reports are available on the borough website.
Ramsey Continues America 250 Celebration with Future Events Planned
Councilwoman Poppy reported on the kickoff of Ramsey's America 250 celebration. She thanked participants, local organizations, and boards for their contributions to planning events over Independence Day weekend. Despite weather challenges, efforts were made to enjoy the program. She also thanked Mayor Dylan for coordination, DPW, OEM, borough staff, and emergency services for their support. The Ensera family was recognized for donating bottled water. Future events include a rescheduled pool party on September 5th and fireworks/live music on Ramsey Day on October 3rd.
Ramsey Council Meeting Covers Minutes Approval, Ordinance Introductions, and Appointments
The council approved minutes from June 24, 2026, and received and filed communications. Public comment was opened and closed with no attendees wishing to speak. Ordinance 14-2026, concerning the control of invasive plants, was discussed, opened for public hearing with no comments, and subsequently moved for amendment and reintroduction. Appointments were made for Jason Chioko and William Troy to the Ramsey Rescue Squad as probationary members. Consent resolutions, including resolutions 143-2026 through 159-2026, were passed. Block party requests for Grand View Terrace and Twin Brook were noted. Resolution 157-2026 for the renewal of Brothers Barbecue's liquor license was opened for public hearing with no comments and closed. Committee and Leon reports were presented, followed by introductions of ordinances including 15-2026 (compensation), 16-2026 (public safety complex funding), 17-2026 (violation bureau schedule), and 18-2026 (water usage fees).
Ramsey to Promote Rockland Electric Energy Efficiency Programs
Councilwoman Poppy discussed follow-up with Rockland Electric Company regarding programs such as residential energy assessments, income-qualified efficiency programs (including free upgrades and weatherization), decarbonization incentives, community education, and appliance recycling. She plans to work with Councilman Kilman to promote these programs to Ramsey residents, especially seniors, and with Councilman Papo on the environmental component. Information will be shared in the fall journal publication and potentially at events like Ramsey Day.
