Ramsey Council Approves Settlement, Tax Bills, Park Upgrades, and Capital Improvement Ordinance

The Mayor and Council approved Resolution 118-2026, which authorizes a settlement agreement recommended by the Bergen Joint Insurance Fund (BJIF). The BJIF will cover the settlement amount, with the borough responsible for the deductible. The BJIF's recommendation was based on the litigation costs potentially exceeding the settlement amount. Resolution 119-2026 was passed to authorize the issuance of estimated third-quarter tax bills, due August 1st, as the county has not yet certified the final property tax rates. Resolution 120-2026 authorizes the disposal of expired Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) tanks from the fire department. Resolution 113-2026 awarded a contract to Classic Turf Court for $954,500, including alternate B, to reconstruct existing basketball and pickleball courts and add two new pickleball courts at Finch Park. Ramsey Council Tables Crosswalk Ordinance Due to Location Ambiguity

Ordinance 12-2026, which amends the mid-block crosswalk ordinance, was introduced. This ordinance relates to a new crosswalk between Ramsey High School and Veterans Park. The proposed language, provided by the County of Bergen, caused confusion regarding the exact location and potential overlap with existing crosswalks. The council decided to table the ordinance for further clarification from the borough engineer and the county, as Main Street is a county road. This crosswalk is being installed at the request of the Board of Education, which will be funding the project.
