Planning Commission Recommends Fence Setback Amendment for Storm Water Pipe Access

The planning commission considered a zoning text amendment to modify fence setback regulations. The proposed amendment would change the measurement point for the six-foot setback from the fence itself to the fence posts. This change aims to allow gates to cross over storm water pipe setbacks, which are currently prohibited by the fence material setback. Public Works has been consulted and supports the change, provided gates can be easily opened and do not obstruct access to storm water infrastructure. The applicant noted that this change would provide greater use of property and resolve aesthetic and functional issues with existing fences near storm water pipes. The commission voted to recommend approval of the amendment to the city council.
