Eden Prairie Honors Helen Holden Anderson and Justice Paul H. Anderson with Heritage Preservation Awards
The Eden Prairie City Council recognized two recipients with the Heritage Preservation Award. The first award was posthumously given to Helen Holden Anderson for her significant contributions as a historian, teacher, scholar, and founder of the Eden Prairie Historical Society. She authored the book 'Eden Prairie, the First 100 Years' and was instrumental in establishing a museum for historical artifacts. The second award was presented to Honorable Paul H. Anderson, son of Helen Holden Anderson and a descendant of early Eden Prairie settlers. Paul Anderson, a former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice, was recognized for his lifelong dedication to Eden Prairie, his assistance in forming the Historical Society, and his continued engagement in preserving the city's history and cultural heritage.
Eden Prairie Moves Forward with Cedar Hills Bike Park Project
The Eden Prairie City Council received an update on the proposed Cedar Hills Bike Park project. The project aims to provide Eden Prairie's first dedicated bike park, featuring human-made and natural obstacles like rollers, jumps, berms, and pump tracks, designed for all skill levels. The park will be located in Cedar Hills Park, utilizing approximately 15 acres of the 40-acre site. The need for the park stems from residents driving to other cities for similar facilities and the desire to protect natural conservation areas like Richard T. Anderson and Riley Creek Big Woods from erosion caused by off-road biking. The project involves a bike committee, public engagement, design by Pathfinder, and construction by Pathfinder Trail Builders, with a projected ribbon-cutting in September.
Eden Prairie Secures $2 Million Grant for Police Facility Garage and Extends Mall TIF
During the City Council meeting, Council Member Freiberg reported on successful legislative actions that benefited Eden Prairie. The city secured a $2 million grant for the construction of an attached garage for regional equipment, such as the mobile command center, to be built adjacent to the new police department facility. Additionally, the city's request to extend its Tax Increment Financing (TIF) component for the Eden Prairie Mall renovation project was approved within the tax bill. The council also thanked local legislators, including Representative Carly Cotiza-Watoon, Senator Steve Swazinski, and Representative Alex Falconer, for their support, and noted the successful defense against several housing proposals that could have threatened city zoning authority.
