Chesco Council Discusses Upcoming Events, Bond Ratings, and E-bike Safety
Council members discussed various upcoming community events and initiatives, including an ice cream social and concert on June 9th, the kickoff of the farmers market on June 11th in a new location with live music on Thursday nights, and the "Shaska Rocks" event on June 20th. They also congratulated graduating students and acknowledged the city's affirmed bond ratings, crediting the finance team for their work and noting that the AA- (EDA A minus) rating is expected to benefit future project financings. Additionally, a council member raised concerns about the prevalence and safety of e-bikes, particularly among younger riders, and urged parents to help enforce rules and have conversations with their children about responsible use.
Resident Objects to New Data Center Construction Citing Environmental and Financial Concerns
During the visitor presentation segment, a resident voiced concerns and objected to the construction of a new data center on School Master Road, which is reportedly already underway but not finalized. The resident cited potential negative impacts including light and noise pollution, high water consumption, and increased energy bills. Concerns were also raised that data centers may not pay their fair share and could increase residents' bills. Additionally, the resident noted that the proposed building height might exceed city ordinances. City staff indicated the project is in the final stages, with a final review pending for two years, and encouraged the resident to speak with city administrator Matt Paroski for more information.
