Stockton City Council Recognizes California Girls State Citizens
The Stockton City Council recognized five young women as California Girls State citizens. These students, who will be seniors in the fall, represented local high schools and attended a week-long program at UC Riverside. Blauer expressed particular pleasure with the approved neighborhood traffic calming measures for Venetian Gardens, Grouse Run, Swain Oaks Manor, and Longview, noting these improvements have been long-awaited by residents.
Stockton Approves Vacation of East 5th Street Right-of-Way for Sikh Temple Expansion
The council held a public hearing and adopted a resolution authorizing the vacation of a portion of East 5th Street right-of-way and reserving a public utility easement. The request was made by the Gurdwara Sahib of Stockton (Sikh Temple) to facilitate the expansion of their facility. Jordan Peterson from the Economic Development Department presented the proposal, explaining that the abandonment area is adjacent to the temple's property, and adjacent property owners on South Aurora Street will retain access. A public utility easement will be reserved, and a cul-de-sac will be created after abandonment for proper circulation. Council members Villapudua, Vice Mayor Lee, and Councilmember Padilla spoke in support of the project, highlighting the Sikh community's contributions and the temple's expansion plans. The resolution was adopted unanimously.
