Resident Urges Installation of Four-Way Stop Signs on East Locust Street Due to Accidents
During the public comment section, a resident raised concerns about traffic safety on East Locust Street, specifically near the intersections of Central, Garfield, and Stockton. The resident cited several recent 'nasty accidents,' including one where a vehicle went onto the sidewalk, narrowly missing a neighbor. The primary issue identified is drivers attempting left turns from Garfield while speeders on East Locust pose a significant danger, especially to children playing in the area. The resident also noted visibility issues due to parked cars. They requested the installation of four-way stop signs on East Locust Street and mentioned previous advocacy for a stop sign on School Street and West Locust Street, which was eventually addressed. Additionally, the resident called for a four-way stop at West Locust Street and Sacramento Street near Five Windows.
Revised Mobile Food Vending Regulations Focus on Location and Permit Requirements
The City Council considered an ordinance to amend Lodi Municipal Code Title 9, Chapter 9.18, regarding mobile food vending. The revisions focus on permit requirements, location standards, and operational regulations. This ordinance, identical to the one presented previously, aims to eliminate the cap on mobile food truck vendors and slightly adjust location requirements. Specifically, mobile food trucks and towed vendors will be restricted to areas east of Main Street within the downtown area to avoid direct competition with established downtown businesses. The ordinance also allows for enforcement of regulations, though concerns were raised about the need for more comprehensive measures to address illegal vending carts and large gatherings that could pose public safety risks. The community development department is forming an internal task force to combat illegal vending.
Walford Solorzano Appointed Interim City Clerk with 20 Years of Public Sector Experience
Walford Solorzano has been appointed as the interim City Clerk, effective August 3rd, 2026, during the recruitment process for a permanent replacement. Mr. Solorzano brings approximately 20 years of public sector experience, including 9 years in various City Clerk roles. He will be compensated at a rate of $70.41 per hour and will receive sick leave accrual and the city's employer portion contribution to his CalPERS account. The city will not provide other benefits. His anticipated start date is July 28th, 2026, to allow for a transition period with the outgoing clerk. The appointment and employment agreement were approved by the council.
