Select Board Approves Land Development and Due Diligence Agreement for Former Library Building
The Sharon Select Board voted to approve a Land Development and Due Diligence Agreement for the former library building (Carnegie Building) with Paramount. This agreement allows the developer to conduct due diligence for a period of 60 days, with a possible 30-day extension by mutual agreement. The agreement outlines the responsibilities of both the town and the developer during this period. It is not a purchase and sale agreement, and either party can choose to terminate the relationship. The town has the right to terminate the agreement if it determines, in its sole discretion, that the developer has failed to perform any obligation. Public documents generated during due diligence, such as the appraisal, will be made public after the agreement is signed, and all documents will become public upon signing a purchase and sale agreement. The board also authorized the chair to sign the agreement on behalf of the board to expedite the process.
India Association of Greater Boston Flag Raising Ceremony Approved
The Sharon Select Board voted to approve the India Association of Greater Boston's event, a flag raising ceremony, proposed for Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the Sharon Community Center Front Lawn. The vote was 4-0-1 with one abstention. A discussion preceded the vote regarding the precise wording of the event's description, with a proposed amendment to remove 'flag raising ceremony' to avoid First Amendment concerns, which ultimately failed. The event will celebrate India's Independence Day and involve raising both the U.S. and Indian flags.
