Foxborough Public Safety Departments Recognized for World Cup Support, Promotions, and Community Service
The Select Board acknowledged several recognitions for the town's public safety departments. The Fire Department received a letter from the ATF commending Foxborough and Chief Michael Kelleher for their support during the World Cup, specifically for hosting the ATF National Response Team. The Police Department saw promotions: Sergeant Meg Allen to Lieutenant and Patrolman Ryan McGrath to Sergeant. Lieutenant Allen is noted as the first female to achieve this rank in the department. Officer William Montaroso was recognized by the Norfolk County Juvenile Court for his professionalism with juveniles. Officer Tim Burt was recognized by the FBI for his critical role in counter-UAS operations during the World Cup. The Junior Police Academy is also underway.
Davio's Steakhouse Receives Approval for Patio Enclosure and Bar Addition
The Select Board approved an alteration of premises application for Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse at 236 Patriot Place. The alteration involves covering the outdoor patio to make it more usable year-round and adding a small bar with seven stools within that space. These changes do not increase seating or occupancy. The board also discussed concerns about patrons obtaining drinks in unenclosed areas and clarified that the covered patio with glass doors, which can open completely, functions as an indoor-outdoor venue and is physically defined to prevent patrons from wandering with drinks in other areas of Patriot Place. The board emphasized the importance of adhering to approved plans and guidelines.
New Thai Restaurant 'Khon Kian' Approved for Malt and Wine License
The Select Board heard a public hearing regarding an on-premises annual malt and wine restaurant license application for Kon Kian 168 Inc., doing business as Khon Kian, located at 34 Mechanic Street. The applicant, represented by attorney Mei Hui Hu and proposed manager Pierpong Wongla, plans to open a Thai restaurant featuring regional cuisine from the Keng Kong region of Thailand. The previous establishment at this location, Mandarin Chef, had closed and did not hold a liquor license. The applicant's team has over 10 years of combined restaurant experience, with two partners owning other successful restaurants without complaints or violations. The board approved the license application, as well as a common victualers license application for the same establishment. Concerns were raised by an abutter regarding parking and potential traffic issues due to limited parking spaces, but it was noted that a shared easement agreement exists, and the owner assured that their customers would not use the abutter's parking. The board also acknowledged the history of traffic at the location due to previous establishments.
Town Announces Strategic Plan Open House, Approves Several Community Events, and Notes Key Personnel Changes
The Select Board received an update on the town's strategic plan open house, scheduled for September 29th from 3 to 7 p.m. at the community center. Residents are encouraged to attend this drop-in event to participate in shaping the town's future. Additionally, several town licenses for events were approved: the Agent Orange Candlelight Vigil on August 8th on the town common, Scarlet Jay's film production on August 8th on the town common, a Burn Boot Camp workout on September 9th on the town common, and the POW MIA Ceremony and Vigil on September 18th and 19th on the common. The board also noted the departure of Catherine Feark, Director of Land Use and Economic Development, at the end of July, and assured that a strong pool of candidates is being considered for her position and other open roles.
