The Select Board reviewed the draft of Article #1 for the October 2026 Annual Town Meeting warrant. Due to the late submission of the warrant articles, the board decided to table the review until the next meeting, allowing members time to thoroughly examine the content, which may change before the meeting.
Mashpee Town Landing Improvements Nearing Completion; Focus on Stormwater and Pond Health
Scott Turner of Fuss & O'Neill provided a status update on the Mashby Town Landing Improvements project, reporting that it is nearing completion. The project, funded by a Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) grant, aimed to remedy nutrient discharges, particularly phosphorus, into Sua Pond from stormwater runoff. Improvements include stormwater basins, a wetland, porous pavement, a new access drive, boat ramp, turnaround, picnic area, and dock. The project faced weather delays but is substantially complete, with final plantings and slope stabilization underway. A sculpture has been installed, and the new dock is in use. Discussions also touched on potential handrailing for stairs and future phases for pond restoration, including alum treatment.
Comcast Project Extension Approved for Route 28 Wiring Upgrade; Traffic Impact Minimized
The Select Board considered a request from Comcast to extend construction work hours under a MassDOT permit. The project involves residential retrofitting and improving wiring to affordable housing, specifically for the Mashpee Housing Authority. Comcast proposed completing the remaining work, which involves aerial wiring, in just two days, with traffic management ensuring both lanes of Route 28 remain open. The board, after discussion and acknowledging concerns from previous projects on Route 151, approved the request for work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., with the specific dates to be agreed upon by the Town Manager.
Select Board Adopts Cyber Incident Response Policy
The Select Board adopted the draft Cyber Incident Response Policy (Policy 085). This policy is a commitment to the town's insurance carrier and is crucial for maintaining the town's AAA bond rating. The board recommended adoption, emphasizing the importance of having a cyber security plan in today's society.
