Council considered two resolutions related to appointments for city boards. Resolution 202632 pertained to appointing two volunteer citizens to the Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) Housing Council, and Resolution 202633 concerned appointing two volunteer citizens to the Local Board of Tax Review. Following an executive session to discuss these appointments, the council moved to defer Resolution 202632. Council Discusses Benefits of Gender-Neutral Restrooms
Council member Stig introduced a communication regarding gender-neutral single-use restrooms, emphasizing their benefits for various groups including older individuals, parents with children, women, and the LGBTQIA+ community. The communication highlighted the anxiety, exclusion, and potential danger transgender individuals and others in the LGBTQIA+ community might face in gender-specific restrooms. Stig advocated for making gender-neutral single-use restrooms the norm and credited city leadership and community values for supporting this change. Council members Evans and Bullock expressed support, highlighting safety, inclusion, equal access, and efficiency as reasons to adopt such restrooms. The council moved to receive and file the communication.
