City Considers 180-Day Moratorium on Data Center Permits
The committee discussed Resolution 2026-21, a proposed moratorium on granting building permits or certificates of occupancy for data centers for up to 180 days. This pause is intended to allow city administration and council to review federal, state, and local codes related to data center development. The proposal was made by Councilman Coyle, and the discussion indicated a proactive approach to potential future data center proposals, ensuring codes are updated before such proposals arise.
Finance Committee Discusses Tax Budget, Capital Improvements, and Infrastructure Repairs
The finance committee reviewed and discussed several financial matters, including the adoption of the tax budget for the fiscal year 2027, which reflects a property tax of 5.9 mills. They also authorized an updated capital improvement plan with an additional $20,000 for the senior center patio door, regardless of grant funding. Furthermore, they discussed a senior center storm sewer repair as an emergency expense and authorized its expenditure. Another item addressed was an ordinance authorizing the updated capital improvement plan for 2026, specifically for a concrete curb and apron in the western city area at a cost of $6,100. The committee also discussed the replacement of stones with stamped concrete and possibly salt-tolerant plants in the medians on Memphis Avenue, and the maintenance of entrance areas near Ferris Metals. Finally, the committee acknowledged the April reports provided by Mr. Regguz.
