Tri-C Softball Team Honored for Championship Season
The council recognized the Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) softball team for their achievements as the 2026 OCCAC champions and 2026 NJCAA Region 12 District Champs. Several players received individual accolades, including Conference MVP and Pitcher of the Year. The head coach was named District Coach of the Year. Six sophomores also earned their college degrees. The team was presented with certificates from various city officials and organizations.
Lot Split Variance Denied for Wexford Avenue Property Amidst Neighbor Opposition
The council denied a variance request for Petro Skyda at 41410 Wexford Avenue concerning a lot split. The applicant sought to divide an 80-foot wide lot into two 40-foot wide lots, each with an area of 5,600 square feet. This would have resulted in lots 20 feet less wide and 2,200 square feet less in area than code allows. The Planning and Building Department had proposed stipulations regarding home design, exterior materials, and height. Despite recommendations from planning, the council voted to deny the variance, aligning with opposition from neighbors and concerns about historical zoning practices regarding lot sizes.
Council Recognizes June as Pride Month Amidst Dissenting Vote
Council Member Wilson introduced Resolution number 92-26, recognizing June as Pride Month and encouraging kindness, inclusion, acceptance, and respect for all community members. Council Member Kuzma voted against the resolution, stating that council should not vote on personal choices regarding sexual orientation or identity, though he acknowledged Parma as a welcoming community. The resolution was adopted by council.
North and West Linden Lane Septic Abatement Project Phase 2 Referred Back to Finance Committee
Ordinance number 89-26, concerning the North and West Linden Lane septic abatement project phase two, was discussed. This project involves the installation of sanitary sewers. The council voted to refer this ordinance back to the Finance Committee for further review.
Variance Granted for Freestanding Sign at Brilliant Electric
The council approved a variance for Brilliant Electric at 48109 Brook Park Road to install a six-foot-tall freestanding sign, which is one foot taller than permitted by code. The variance was recommended by the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Planning Committee.
