2027 Budget Discussions Postponed Due to Economic Uncertainty
The council discussed the 2027 budget calendar, specifically employee pay adjustments. Due to the current global and local economic uncertainties, the city is not prepared to make recommendations at this time. Salary surveys are being finalized but will be held until a clearer understanding of the economic situation is achieved. The next steps involve finalizing these surveys and awaiting further economic clarity before making any decisions on pay adjustments.
Elva Restaurant Named Fort Morgan Business of the Month
The City of Fort Morgan recognized Elva Restaurant as the Business of the Month for its valuable contributions to the community. Acronado Granted Variance for Vehicle Canopies at West Plat Avenue Dealerships
The City Council unanimously approved a variance request for Acronado to install vehicle canopies or carports at 700 and 718 West Plat Avenue. The variance is from the reversed corner lot setback regulations, allowing Acronado to place structures on the side of each building to protect their vehicle stock from hail damage. The carports are designed to match existing buildings and will also serve as demonstration models for their retail sales of these structures. A condition of the variance is that the structures must remain as long as the properties are used as auto dealerships.
City Approves $104,000 Paving Change Order for Cargill Access Road
The city council approved a change order to amend the 2026 HBP paving project contract with Martin Marietta Materials for $104,000. This amendment allows for the immediate repair of asphalt road conditions in front of the Cargill facility, which are in poor condition due to the ongoing shutdown. The work is planned to be completed by the end of June, provided there are no operational disruptions at the plant. The city will coordinate with the Teamsters regarding the work schedule.
Fort Morgan Secures Favorable Bond Financing for Wastewater Project
The city council received an update on the wastewater project financing. The city successfully issued over $50 million in bonds, receiving bids totaling over $620 million, which is highly favorable. The net interest rate on the bonds will be 4.87%, significantly below the authorized 6%. This successful bond issuance provides the necessary funds to move forward with the wastewater project, which is currently out to bid and expected to have contractor recommendations in early July.
