Thornton Township Awards $3,000 PPRT Fund to Village of Dalton, Highlights Intergovernmental Collaboration
Thornton Township Highway Commissioner Antoine presented to the board regarding the allocation of Illinois Personal Property Replacement Tax (PPRT) funds. These funds are distributed by the state to local governments to offset lost revenue from the elimination of the personal property tax on businesses. The PPRT funds are flexible and can be used for general municipal purposes, including essential services, infrastructure, and community programs, without increasing the tax burden on residents. Commissioner Antoine highlighted the collaborative efforts between Thornton Township and Dalton's engineering team, Robertson Engineering, to potentially reduce costs for roadway improvements through intergovernmental agreements (IGAs). A check for $3,000 was presented to the village, which is intended for public works petty cash.
Village Board Approves Zoning Amendment to Allow Data Centers at 13850
The board approved an amendment to the zoning for the property located at 13850, which will now allow for data centers as an allowable function. This decision was previously discussed at the committee of the whole meeting.
Village Secures $11.5M for Lead Service Line Replacement, Paves Way for Alley Improvements and Facility Upgrades
The Village Engineer announced that the village was selected by the IEPA to receive $11.5 million in forgiveness for lead service line replacement, with work expected in 2027. Additionally, funding has been secured for paving alleys through a partnership with MWRD for green infrastructure. The engineer also reported that the village is finalizing paperwork with DCEO to receive funds for replacing fire hydrant valves, improving the water pump station, and making ADA compliance upgrades to the village hall.
Dalton United Housing Program Set to Launch June 15th; Scholarship Information Available
Trustee Norwood provided an update on housing initiatives. The Dalton United Housing Program has a tentative start date of Monday, June 15th. A quarterly housing committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 9th, to finalize program details and house rules. She also thanked the mayor and the Southland Regional Mayor Black Caucus Committee for awarding scholarships to two Dalton residents, with additional scholarships available. Information on applications for both the housing program and scholarships will be posted online.
Mayor Announces Father's Day Picnic, Home Beautification Awards, and Encourages Community Unity
Mayor House announced several upcoming community events and initiatives. A Father's Day picnic will be held on June 20th at Dalton Park District. The village is also reintroducing the 'Home Beautification Awards' to recognize residents who take pride in their property, with applications closing June 15th. Additionally, the mayor extended condolences for recent deaths in the community and encouraged residents to uplift one another during difficult times.
