Wheeling Helping Hands Raffle Event Fidelity Bond Waived
The Village Board approved a resolution waving the fidelity bond requirement for Wheeling Helping Hands to conduct a raffle event on September 19th, 2026. This item was placed on new business instead of the consent agenda to allow the president of Wheeling Helping Hands to abstain from the vote. The waiver is standard for certain non-profit events.
Successful Inaugural Chili Cook-Off Held; Fire Department Takes Top Honors
Trustee Vogle asked about the chili cook-off. It was reported as a successful first-time event with 13 cooks and seven judges, including a local reporter. The fire department won first place, with the fire chief taking second and the director of public works taking third. The event is being considered for a future date, possibly in conjunction with a Green Bay Packers game.
Mary Jim Recreational and Instructional Facility Approved
The Village Board approved an ordinance granting special use approval for Mary Jim to operate a recreational and instructional facility at 228 Mckenry Road. This facility will offer structured programming for children, including gymnastics, fundamentals, dance, and choreography. The Plan Commission recommended approval with four conditions: village review for any significant expansion of hours or operating schedule modifications, no food preparation/service, indoor-only activities, and a Wheeling sign permit. The board approved the ordinance.
Children's Success Limited Tutoring Center Approved
The Village Board approved an ordinance granting special use approval for Children's Success Limited to operate a tutoring center at 714 South Milwaukee Avenue. The center will provide structured instruction in early childhood development, art education, literacy, and mathematics for children aged 12 months to 15 years. The Plan Commission recommended approval with five conditions, including fire alarm improvements, no food service, indoor-only activities, prohibition of using an existing outdoor playground, and a Wheeling sign permit. The board approved the ordinance.
Milwaukee Avenue Water Main Project Completion Expected by End of August
Regarding the water main project on Milwaukee at Hintz, it was reported that the project is on schedule and expected to be completed by the end of August. While the main project completion is in August, turf restoration may occur later to avoid extreme summer heat. The village has no control over the schedule, which is set by the contractors.
