City to Purchase 200 South Lee Street Property for Redevelopment Purposes

The property will ultimately be conveyed to the Central Valdosta Development Authority for redevelopment purposes. The 2026 tax assessor's value is $255,364.
Engineering Services Approved for New Fire Station 9 on Interperimeter Road
The City Council approved an engineering professional design service agreement for Fire Station Number 9. The station is proposed to be built along the interperimeter corridor to serve the growing northeast portion of town and maintain the city's ISO rating of one. The agreement covers civil site work, including surveys, utility extensions, and roadway access. The total requested funding for this phase is $141,125, which includes a 25% contingency.
City Council Approves Transmission of Draft 2026 Joint Comprehensive Plan for State Review
The City Council reviewed and approved the transmission of the draft 2026 Joint Comprehensive Plan to the state for review. This plan, developed over approximately a year and involving six local governments, outlines future land use maps and actionable community steps. It is a requirement for maintaining the city's Qualified Local Government (QLG) status, which is crucial for securing grants and funding. ERA Architects Selected for Design of New Fire Station 9

ERA Architects of Valdosta was enlisted for the design. Their proposal is based on an estimated $2.5 million construction cost, with a total estimated fee of $144,000. The city requested a total of $180,000, including a 25% contingency for potential incidental costs during the design phase.
City Approves $18.8M Construction Bid for Mud Creek Water Pollution Control Plant Upgrades
The City Council approved bids for construction and an adjustment to the professional services agreement for the Mud Creek Water Pollution Control Plant project. Hunt Industries Incorporated submitted the low bid for construction at $18,880,157.53. The professional services agreement with Turnip Seed Engineers was adjusted, and a 5% contingency was included. The total requested funding for the project is $21,509,219.47.
