City Approves Change Order for Storm Water Project
The council approved a change order with Tim Laneir Construction for $9,347.68 for additional work related to storm water, described as 'inlet or something that's related to storm water'. The work is funded by 2013 T plus funds. Mr. Penny recommended approval, noting that such change orders are necessary when field discoveries are made during projects.
City Manager Updates on Staff Departure, Community Cleanup, Grant Application, and Waste Bin Compliance
The City Manager provided updates on several items. Tamika, the KSVB coordinator, is moving to Florida with her family, with her husband receiving a promotion in the Orlando police department. The Georgia Southern football team will participate in a community trash pickup on July 22nd. The fire department has applied for the Firehouse Sub Public Safety Grant, which would provide equipment if awarded. Additionally, the city is addressing concerns about garbage can placement, educating residents through letters and stickers on bins, and working with code enforcement and public works to mitigate issues, emphasizing a process of education over immediate fines.
City Approves Purchase of Eight New Control Vehicles
The council approved the purchase and upfitting of eight new control vehicles for a total expenditure of $696,527.66. The funds will come from 2019 funds and be purchased through a state of Georgia procurement contract. The breakdown includes costs for vehicles from Wade Ford, data tablets from Patrol PC, in-car camera equipment from Motorola, and upfitting from West Chatham Warning Devices.
City Accepts Grant for Multi-Use Trail Project Design
The council considered and approved Resolution 2026-34, accepting a transportation alternatives and congestion mitigation and air quality improvement grant award for the 'Creek on the Blue Mile' multi-use trail project. This grant will provide funding for the design phase of the project, complementing a previously awarded $1.6 million grant for construction work. The city will participate using T-Squad funds.
