City Approves Purchase of Rock Salt Amidst 23% Price Increase
The City Commission authorized the purchase of rock salt for the 2026-2027 winter season from Morton Salt Incorporated, not to exceed $4,356,187.50, through the Ohio Department of Transportation Cooperative Purchasing Program. This purchase represents a 23% increase in cost from the previous year, marking the highest price since 2010. The increase is attributed to a combination of high demand from a large winter season and increased fuel prices impacting transportation costs.
