Council Member Explains DDA Appointment Vote, Promotes Safety Event
Council Member Kath Hardrick explained her 'no' vote on Todd Warner's appointment to the DDA, stating it was due to a lack of public notice for the vacant position, which she believes undermines fairness and transparency in the appointment process. She stressed the importance of consistent, transparent procedures for equal opportunity on boards. She also announced the first Safety Series event on July 22nd focusing on young drivers and riders, and encouraged citizens to volunteer and stay informed via city channels.
Resident Expresses Gratitude for Snowville's Thriving Community and Leadership

Snowville Council Moves Special Use Permit for Christian School to Next Meeting
The City Council of Snowville heard the first reading of an application for a Special Use Permit (SUP26-01) and a variance. The request is from Shane Sees, representing Parkview Christian School (applicant), and John Weldon, pastor of Westside Baptist Church (property owner). They seek to operate a private K-8 Christian school within the existing church facility on a 4.42-acre site zoned RS30 (Single Family Residential District) at 2925 Main Street West. A variance is also requested from section 206-41J of the use standards in Article 6, Chapter 200 of the UDO. The council voted to wave the first reading to the next meeting on July 27, 2026.
Snowville City Council Officially Opposes Proposed Gwinnett County Apartment Complex
The City Council of Snowville passed Resolution 2026-03, officially opposing a proposed 300-unit apartment complex rezoning in Gwinnett County at 1160 Athens Highway, near the Peddler's location between Summit Chase and Rosebud Road. Gwinnett County planning staff and the Planning Commission had recommended denial for the project. The resolution expresses the city's desire for the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners to also deny the project. Council members cited concerns about the location being outside designated multifamily housing areas in Snowville's comprehensive plan, the potential negative impact on established neighborhoods, and specific traffic safety issues at the proposed site, including ingress/egress and proximity to a high-accident intersection. The vote was five in favor, with one abstention.
Mayor Pro Tem Honors Late Council Member, Promotes Community Support and Safety Initiatives
Mayor Pro Tem Carter acknowledged the passing of former council member Kurt Schultz, extending condolences to his family. He described Schultz as a dedicated volunteer, co-founder of the Snowville Farmers Market, and involved in the community garden, noting his humble nature and commitment to community building. Carter also detailed his attendance at a fundraiser for 'Mending the Gap,' an organization providing personal hygiene products and food to seniors, and highlighted two upcoming back-to-school events: one at Snowville Church of Christ on July 25th and another at South Gwinnett High School on August 1st. He also warned residents about increased police enforcement for Operation Southern Slowdown from July 13th to 19th, targeting speeders and aggressive drivers.
