Lawrenceville Holds Public Hearing for FY2027 Millage Rate, Resident Raises Infrastructure Concerns
The City of Lawrenceville held a public hearing for the fiscal year 2027 millage rate. The proposed millage rate is 3.26, which is the same as the previous three years. This rate is 0.326 mils above the rollback rate. Property tax revenue for 2027 is projected to be $7,592,000, an increase of $501,000 over the previous year, to cover services such as police, road maintenance, parks, and inflationary increases. The presentation compared the proposed millage rate to surrounding communities, noting it is the lowest among full-service cities in Gwinnett County. A resident expressed concerns about the condition of local roads and infrastructure not being addressed despite the proposed tax increase. The resident questioned the allocation of funds and the effectiveness of public services, especially concerning road maintenance and infrastructure capacity for new developments. The city clarified that the resident's address was in unincorporated Gwinnett County, making road services a county responsibility. Two additional public hearings are scheduled before the millage rate adoption.
