Secaucus Introduces Ordinance to Repeal Parental Responsibility Chapter
Ordinance 2026-26, which repeals Chapter 96 of the town code entitled Parental Responsibility, was introduced. The public hearing for this ordinance is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23rd. The introduction passed with a unanimous vote.
Secaucus Fire Department Responds to Calls, Honors Chief Shock, and Competes in Stair Climb
The fire department responded to 36 calls between May 1st and May 18th. The department participated in the funeral for Chief Brian Shock, described as a respectful and emotional day honoring his service. Three members of the fire department competed in the PBA Law Enforcement Torch Run Harmon Cove Stair Climb: Firefighter Davin Pistell, Probationary Firefighter Brandon Edwards, and Junior Firefighter Thomas Marzouk. Brandon Edwards won the award for fastest firefighter in full gear.
Youth Kindness Institute Sees Significant Growth in Participation and Impact
The sixth annual Youth Kindness Institute saw a 50% increase in student participation, with approximately 40 students involved. The program aims to instill kindness and community involvement, with students learning and completing various projects. The event also recognized high school students for their mentorship and saw an increase in the number of projects presented at the service fair, from the 20s to over 30. Supplies from the program were donated to five different agencies.
Secaucus Amends Regulations for Drones and Unmanned Aircraft
Ordinance 2026-22, amending Chapter 87 of the town code related to Drones and Unmanned Aircraft, was introduced and approved. Following a public hearing where no public comments were made, the ordinance received a unanimous vote of approval from the mayor and council.
Secaucus Launches Summer Concert and Movie Series
The Mayor and Town Council announced the 'Summer in Secaucus 2026' concert and movie series. Concerts are scheduled every Thursday from June 25th through September 3rd, starting at 7:00 p.m. Movies will be shown at the ice rink at 7:30 p.m. on July 7th, July 21st, August 4th, and August 18th. The town museum will be open every Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
