Planning Commission Approves Temporary Sign Ordinance Changes and Miscellaneous Zoning Text Amendments
The Planning Commission discussed and considered amendments to the temporary sign ordinance. The proposed amendments included a 30-day total display limit per year, one sign permitted per business or property, a limitation that only 50% of businesses in a shopping center may have a freestanding temporary sign at one time, a maximum size of 32 square feet, the requirement for a permit, and specific setback requirements. After deliberation, the commission voted to remove the 50% limitation for multi-tenant shopping centers. The commission also recommended approval of the text amendment for PZ261156 to the Village Board. Additionally, the commission opened and discussed a public hearing for a miscellaneous zoning ordinance text amendment case (PZ261159). This amendment aimed to update language regarding certificates of occupancy, moving it to the building code to provide enforcement mechanisms for police, fire, and code enforcement. It also addressed certificates of zoning compliance by clarifying that a formal process no longer exists but a zoning verification can still be requested. The amendment also proposed re-adding pet crematory as a special use in the B5 district and clarified regulations for swimming pools, hot tubs, and spas by aligning setbacks with other accessory structures. The commission voted to approve the text amendment for PZ261159 and recommend it to the Village Board.
