Glendale Heights Police Chief Reports Decreased Crime, Increased Enforcement Efforts
The Police Chief presented statistics on crime trends in Glendale Heights, detailing a decrease in Part 1 crimes such as robberies, residential burglaries, and vehicle burglaries between 2024 and 2025. Retail thefts and motor vehicle thefts also showed reductions. The Chief attributed these improvements to increased police presence, including a significant rise in foot patrols and traffic stops. The presentation also highlighted an increase in Part 2 crimes, such as drug offenses, which are linked to proactive policing efforts. The importance of traffic enforcement was emphasized, with a significant number of traffic stops leading to DUIs, suspended/revoked license arrests, and citations for speeding and other violations. New legislation awaiting the governor's signature was discussed, including measures requiring ignition interlock devices for aggravated speeders and imposing license plate, insurance, and driver's license requirements for certain e-bikes, which could lead to arrests and impoundment of the vehicles. The Chief also addressed damage to park property by e-bikes and other bicycles, emphasizing parental responsibility and the potential for prosecution and bans from parks. Inter-agency efforts to reduce speeding on Route 64 and North Avenue were also mentioned.
Trustee Raises Concerns Over Lack of Communication Regarding 'Build It Right' Program
During the village board meeting, Trustee Light expressed concern about the lack of prior notification regarding the 'Build It Right' program held at the Glenside Library. He felt embarrassed not knowing about a program that was advertised locally and emphasized the need for better communication between the village administration and the board. The administration acknowledged that it was a pilot program initiated by the library district and apologized for the oversight, promising to improve communication for future events. Trustee Light also requested that trustees and the mayor be kept informed of such initiatives.

Glendale Heights Approves Service Line Protection Program for Residents
The village board discussed and approved a resolution authorizing a marketing agreement between the village and Utility Service Partners Private Label, Inc. (doing business as Service Line Warranties of America) for a service line protection program. Mike Chambers from Utility Service Partners presented the program, explaining that it offers optional repair plans for residents covering external waterlines, external sewer lines, and in-home plumbing and drainage. The program aims to educate homeowners about their responsibility for these lines and provide a cost-effective solution for repairs, which can otherwise be expensive. The village incurs no cost, as the company handles marketing, billing, and customer service, and shares a portion of the revenue with the village. The program includes a 30-day waiting period for claims. Concerns were raised by residents regarding pricing, coverage limits, and potential confusion with village communications. The possibility of extending coverage to multi-family communities and specific issues like window wells was also brought up.
