Efficiency Study Projects $80 Million in Annual Savings for School District

The board received a presentation on an efficiency study that identified significant potential annual recurring general fund savings of $80 million, with $8.5 million to $20 million in savings identified per area. The study focused on educational and operational efficiency, with recommendations aimed at improving student achievement and cutting costs. The study was conducted by Gibson Consulting Group, TNTP, and Sped Direct Consultants. Deputy Superintendent Felicia Gonzalez served as the liaison for the project. The total one-time investment for the study was $1.4 million. The findings and recommendations are intended to be implemented over a five-year period, with updates provided through the district's strategic plan monitoring mechanism. The operations team identified opportunities in technology, transportation, facilities management, and indirect cost recovery.
