La Quinta Council Considers Roundabout Improvements at Jefferson and 52
The City Council discussed the Avenue 52 at Jefferson Street Roundabout Project during a study session. The existing roundabout, built in the early 2000s, does not meet current standards and has contributed to issues like side-swipe accidents and higher-than-recommended vehicle speeds. Over five years, there have been 12 collisions, none fatal or severe, with two related to DUI and two involving cyclists. Three alternatives were considered: a complete reconstruction ($5.3M), optimizing approaches ($4.8M), and a low-build option ($1.7M). The low-build option, which uses targeted geometric improvements and new curbs to guide vehicles and reduce speeds, is considered the best value. Staff recommended further consideration of this option, potentially including bike ramps and shared use paths, while acknowledging that a 'do nothing' option is also possible. The project aims to improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, vehicles, golf carts, and NEVs.
La Quinta Proclaims Outdoor Workers Appreciation Week, Honors Essential Staff

La Quinta City Council Updates Conflict of Interest Code to Comply with State Law

This amendment is necessary to comply with updates to state law, specifically Senate Bill 852, which requires public officials managing public investments to file statements of economic interest (Form 700s) directly with the Fair Political Practices Commission. The ordinance designates specific positions for full disclosure, including management analysts, finance manager, and members of the Financial Advisory Commission, and also incorporates recently added city positions. The council also approved accepting the California Fair Political Practices Commission's 2026 local agency biennial notice.
New Battalion Chief John Phillips Introduced to La Quinta Fire Department
The City Council introduced Battalion Chief John Phillips to the La Quinta Battalion Chief position (Battalion 6A). Phillips began his fire service career in 2002, progressing through CAL FIRE and gaining experience in training, curriculum development, and specialized rescue programs. La Quinta Approves Contract for Expanded Holiday Lighting and Decor Services
The City Council approved an agreement with Jennifer Minch, DBA Perfect Holiday Lights, for holiday decor and lighting services for one year, with a potential for two consecutive one-year extensions.
