Homer Glen Holds Public Hearing for New Wastewater Treatment Plant
The village board held a public hearing to receive comments on the project summary and preliminary environmental impacts determination (PEID) for the proposed wastewater treatment plant facility. Dunkin Donuts Drive-Thru Approved at 151st and Bell Road
The village board considered and approved an ordinance for the final plat of subdivision for a standalone Dunkin Donuts drive-thru establishment. The location is at the northwest corner of 151st Street and South Bell Road. This development will involve consolidating existing parcels and relocating a Dunkin Donuts from a gas station site to a freestanding building. Concerns about the number of Dunkin Donuts locations in the village were raised, but it was clarified that this change would eliminate one existing location, not add a new one. The ordinance was approved with conditions, including recording the final plat survey within 90 days and meeting all engineering and building code requirements.
Parking Reduced for Greater Goods Building on 159th Street
The board approved a conditional parking adjustment for the Greater Goods building, reducing the required parking spaces from 47 to 25, a reduction of 22 spaces. The property is located at 13412 West 159th Street in the C2 Local Business zoning district. Trustees noted that the property has an abundance of parking, and similar adjustments have been made for other businesses. Concerns were raised about making the adjustment temporary, for one year, to allow for assessment of parking demands. The ordinance includes this temporary condition, expiring one year after passage, but allows for future requests. The adjustment does not affect handicap parking spaces. The motion to approve was carried.
Village Board Approves Confidential Executive Session Minutes
The board approved the release of certain executive session minutes from January, February, March, and April of 2026. These minutes are to remain confidential and not be publicly released. The motion to approve was carried.
Village Board to Review and Update Tobacco Sales Code
During the new business portion of the meeting, Trustee Mason proposed revisiting village code Article 3 concerning the sale of tobacco. The current code states that a business owner caught selling to a minor may not have their license renewed at the time of renewal, which could be months after the offense. Trustee Mason argued for immediate action, suggesting potential penalties like fines, license suspension, or closure for a period. The board discussed creating a standard operating procedure with clear consequences for selling to minors, including fines and potential license suspensions for first, second, and third offenses. The clerk's office provided a summary of neighboring jurisdictions' procedures. The board agreed to update the code based on trustee input, to be submitted to the village attorney.
