Chicago Christian Schools to Acquire Trinity Christian College Campus; Community Events Announced
Chicago Christian Schools announced plans to acquire the 60-acre campus of Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights through a newly formed entity, Chicago Christian Educational Opportunity LLC. This acquisition, funded by outside investment partners and the CCS Foundation, aims to preserve and expand Christian educational opportunities in the region. The college has served as a hub for Christian education since 1959. Additionally, several community events were announced: the pool opening, a concert in the park featuring Wildwood Country, and the first ice cream social.
State Zoning Authority Concerns Discussed; New Taxes and Funding Initiatives Under Review
The council discussed the Build Act and efforts to prevent state overreach on local zoning and land usage authority. It was noted that while the zoning overhaul failed to pass, a $250 million capital fund for affordable housing was approved. Concerns were raised about potential future attempts to pass similar legislation and the introduction of new taxes, including a credit card tax and a golf cart wheel tax. The council also addressed the discontinuation of AT&T's platform that supports Channel 4's revenue.
New Appointment to Public Arts Commission; Hydrant Repair and Road Maintenance Projects Approved
Kathleen Iicorn was appointed to the Public Arts Commission for a three-year term expiring in June 2029. The council also approved a motion to approve payment to Anchor Heavy Civil for hydrant repair at 127th Richland Avenue and a proposal with JDC to purchase a hydrant repair tool kit. Additionally, a proposal with American Seal Coding and Maintenance to repair the access road of the former Trinity Christian College was approved, as was awarding the water main replacement Kio Lane project to Aries Incorporated.
City Council Approves Payments for Infrastructure Projects and New Administrative Toll Fee
The city council approved several payments for ongoing infrastructure projects under the consent calendar. These included payments for sewer and manhole rehabilitation, a ground storage tank, and water main lining projects. Additionally, a motion was approved to declare a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe surplus and sell it. Another motion adopted an ordinance for an administrative toll fee for traffic law violations to recoup towing and impoundment costs related to criminal activities.

Detective Jake Wag received a life-saving award for his swift and professional response to a woman with a severe arterial bleed. He applied a tourniquet and pressure bandage, stabilizing the victim until fire personnel arrived. The same week, he was also instrumental in resolving a hostage situation as part of a SWAT incident. Sergeant Bill Meritz was sworn in after 28 years of service from Sergeant Adam Negi. The police department also won a scholarship from Northwestern University, which will provide exceptional training.
