City Council Approves Hiring and Advertising for Key Positions
The Council considered and approved advertising to fill a heavy equipment operator position and a truck driver position for the street department. They also granted Chief Turner permission to advertise for a police officer position. Additionally, they approved hiring Antonio Norman for the airport operations department and Andrea Somerville as a customer service representative for the water department.
City Approves Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Study and Utility Building Adjustments
The Council considered and approved accepting the base bid plus additive alternatives one and two for the sanitary sewer evaluation study project 10, based on the lowest bid and recommendation from W.F. Burley engineers. The total cost for this project is $849,650. They also approved utility building adjustments based on farmers' receipts.
City to Apply for $750,000 Small Cities CDBG Grant for Sewer Improvements
The Council considered ratifying a resolution authorizing the filing of an application for a Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) administered by the state of Mississippi. This is a $750,000 award, and the city needs to waive crucial forgiveness. The grant mortgage will be handled by South Delta City VG, and the county is also applying. This CDBG will help improve the Sanitary Sewer improvement project.
City Council Approves Project Development Agreement, Change Order for Sewer Project, and Repair Contract
The Council considered and approved accepting a project development agreement (PDA) intent from Half Company LLC, which was to be held in closed session for attorney review. They also approved a change order for the Compliance and Dermal Systems (CES LLC) Group 3 mini-system sanitary sewer evaluation project, increasing the cost by $20,927.01 due to contract quantity adjustments and project closeout. Additionally, they accepted Dunbaron Contractor's base bid plus additive alternatives for the 2026 sanitary sewer repair project.
City Council Accepts $2 Million FAA Airport Drainage Improvement Grant
The City Council considered and approved accepting a $2 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airport drainage improvement grant for tier two and tier three projects. This grant includes a 2.5% city match of $55,000. The funding will allow for the completion of the drainage project in its entirety, rather than in sections over several years. There is a possibility of an additional $2 million grant for infrastructure and pavement improvements.
