City Authorizes Street Light Service Contract RFP and Approves Forplex Change Orders and HVAC Maintenance
The City Council authorized the advertising for professional support services for the city's street lighting system. This is a step towards acquiring a service contract for the street lights. Proposals will be reviewed, and a recommendation will be brought to the board in one to two months. Separately, the council approved multiple change orders for the Forplex building project. These included increasing water supply line wall thickness, relocating electrical lines discovered during demolition, and making minor tweaks to the building plans for improved concession stand functionality. Additionally, the council approved a one-year preventative maintenance contract for HVAC systems at Public Works with Ivy Mechanical, which is expected to save the city money compared to previous providers.
Council Reduces Rental Late Fees for Property Owners After Notification Dispute
The City Council heard a request from Rebecca and Jay Presley to waive late fees totaling $2,750 for rental registrations for five units across two locations. The Presleys argued they were not properly notified due to an address change and a lack of direct contact. The city explained its notification process, including letters and phone calls, and stated that local agents are required for absentee owners. The council ultimately approved a motion to reduce the late fees to a $500 penalty, in addition to the outstanding yearly registration fees, acknowledging the Presleys' history of compliance and the difficulties encountered.
