Fort Madison Council Approves Refinancing of $2.75M Bonds and Sets Budget Amendment Hearing
The City Council authorized a public hearing and approved proceedings for a loan agreement to refinance existing bonds totaling $2,750,000. This refinancing is expected to save the city up to $80,000 in interest. The resolution was to adopt a resolution instituting proceedings to take additional action for the issuance of not to exceed $2,750,000 in general obligation capital loan notes. The council also set a public hearing for May 19th regarding fiscal year 2025-2026 budget amendments, which will include adjustments for unspent funds and newly implemented programs.
Riverview Park Playground Project Moves Forward with Architect Selection and Design Phase
The City Council approved a resolution authorizing the Mayor's signature on a service agreement with Streamline Architects for the design of the Riverview Park Playground Project. This project has been discussed for years, and while fundraising and grant writing are ongoing, design work is now commencing. The scope includes enhancing the park's entranceway. Design funds have been donated and grants received. Streamline Architects, based in the Quad City area, will collaborate with Martin Whitaker for engineering services. The project also includes a full survey of Riverview Park, which is required for a National Park Service grant. The city has allocated $50,000 in the upcoming budget for this project.
