Police Department Authorized to Purchase New Patrol Vehicle
Council approved the purchase of an outfitted patrol vehicle for $80,000 from Carl Chevrolet, utilizing L.O.S.T. (Local Option Sales Tax) funds. This is a recurring annual purchase, historically funded through L.O.S.T. funds to balance the budget. The $80,000 covers the vehicle cost and most of the upfitting expenses, with any remaining costs absorbed into the police department's budget. The purchase is intended to add one vehicle to the fleet, potentially extending the life of the oldest squad car.
Council Approves Purchase of John Deere Skid Loader
Council approved the purchase of a John Deere 330 skid loader from Murphy Equipment for $57,000. While a CAT bid was lower ($4,000 less), it was for a smaller machine with less capacity. Another bid was higher ($8,000 more). The purchase was budgeted for the year, though prices have increased since initial budgeting. The budgeted amount was approximately $54,000, but included a trade-in value for a previous machine. The new purchase is an upgrade in capacity.
Proposed Naming Policy to be Reviewed by Outside Counsel
Council considered a proposed naming and recognition policy, prompted by a $500,000 contribution from the Jefferson County Foundation towards the fire station's community/training room. The policy aims to provide guidelines for naming opportunities, ensuring they align with city values and tax-exempt bonding status. Key principles include public benefit, donation significance, city stewardship, and community identity. The policy covers naming terms (20-30 years) and allows for flexibility, including honorary naming. Council decided to send the draft policy to outside counsel for review before further consideration.
Walton Golf Club Bridge Project Completed and Accepted
Council approved the acceptance of the Walton Golf Club bridge project as final, with a final pay estimate of $11,033.96. This marks the completion of the project. A council member thanked staff, the city engineer, administrator, and council for their perseverance throughout the project, noting that Walton Lake is now full and overflowing, and will be stocked with sport fish next year after the removal of carp that inhibited them.
