Mall Property Under Purchase Agreement for Mixed-Use Development
The former mall property is now under a purchase agreement between the Port Authority and IRG, with PREP Funds as a partner. The development is planned to include residential, commercial, and retail spaces, with an estimated investment of $50 million for the purchase and development. Meetings are ongoing to finalize details, including TIFF development agreements. Discussions are also underway regarding the old Tavern on the mall property to serve as a main entry point for the project.
Amtrak Station Relocation Efforts Gain Momentum
Council member Lipian noted the progress of the Amtrak station move, referencing a presentation by All Aboard Ohio at the Lorain County Transportation Center. Letters of support are being requested from state-level elected officials to advance the project.
Recycling Contamination Fees Explained, Goal is Cost Stabilization
The Safety Service Director explained the recycling contamination fee structure. A ton of recyclables costs $100, with an additional $75 fee if contamination exceeds 30%, bringing the total to $175. Trash costs $100 per ton. The goal of the new recycling initiative is to stabilize costs by reducing contamination fees, rather than necessarily achieving cost reductions. Weekly monitoring of loads will occur.
Downtown Historic Redevelopment Grant Considered for Triad Investment
The council is considering a downtown historic redevelopment program grant for Triad Investment, the applicant, for improvements at 523 and 525 Broad Street. The matter is tentatively scheduled for a hearing on the following Monday at 5:30 PM, prior to the community development and finance committee meeting with the Economic Development and Community Development Committee (EDCDC).
Pocket Park Construction to Begin This Week
Mayor Brewaker announced that construction on the Pocket Park located at the corner of 15th Mussy and West Avenue will begin this week. Wellington Builders was awarded the contract after multiple attempts to secure a bid within budget.
