Retirement of Jean Mor Recognized; Public Safety Concerns Regarding Parking and Recreational Vehicles Raised
The board acknowledged the retirement of Jean Mor, with her last day being June 30th. She began her service in 1992, serving on the Parks and Recreation board. The board expressed a desire to potentially bring her back for grant work related to the foundation, armory, and Holly Hall. Additionally, council members discussed ongoing issues including vehicles parking on High Street creating a nuisance, and the safety concerns posed by mopeds and dirt bikes operating recklessly in town.
Fireworks Launch Site Decision for Current Year and Future Plans
Discussion centered on the location for this year's fireworks display. While larger diameter fireworks were considered to allow viewing throughout town during COVID-19, concerns were raised about managing pedestrian and vehicle traffic if the launch site returned to Meadow Park, the pre-COVID location. Specific issues included pedestrian traffic management on streets without full road closures, heavier lift for staff, and the need for greater distance from launch sites for safety, potentially restricting seating areas. The board ultimately decided to keep this year's launch site as is, but plans to return to Meadow Park next year with advance planning for vendors and parking.
Howard Street Closure Approved for Little League Event; Fireworks and Police Presence Addressed
The board approved a motion to close Howard Street on Saturday, June 6th, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM for a Little League fun day and parade. The parade will travel from the courthouse parking lot to one of the fields. The request was sent to the Chief of Police, who indicated it should not interfere with any other operations and received approval. Additionally, the town will place more fireworks ports for the July 4th celebration, and police presence will be visible at the baseball field.
Board Adopts FY2027 Budget Ordinance
The board adopted ordinance 2-2026 for the fiscal year 2027 budget. The real property tax rate and business property tax rate remain the same as the previous year. A public hearing was held on June 6th with no questions or concerns raised, and no amendments were made to the budget presented at that hearing. The adoption sets the stage for the July 1st budget.

Angelina announced the success of the spring car park event, noting a higher turnout than ever before. She also announced the upcoming Memorial Day parade on Monday, starting at 11:00 AM, with a rain plan to be announced on Sunday via email and Facebook if necessary.
