Cocoa Beach Sets Proposed FY2027 Millage Rate at 6.1644% Amidst Budgetary Debates
The City Commission set the proposed millage rate for Fiscal Year 2027 after extensive discussion regarding budget balancing, reserve funds, and potential revenue impacts from state amendments. The commission ultimately voted to set the proposed millage rate at 6.1644, with the understanding that any additional income would go towards reserves, although there was considerable debate between the 6.0% and 6.1644% rates. The commission also confirmed dates for public hearings and votes on the tentative and final millage rates and budget for FY2027, with the first hearing scheduled for September 3rd and the final for September 17th.
Bsentennial Park Reopens After Extensive Flood Mitigation and Improvement Project
The Bsentennial Park project, which has been a long time coming, recently had a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The park, which was never officially named but existed for many years, experienced persistent flooding issues. A committee was formed years ago to address these problems, leading to the park being raised by 2 feet and incorporating an exfiltration system for water seepage, retention areas, and improved drainage. This project was funded by state grants.
Brooks Webb Appointed New Public Works Director for Cocoa Beach
Brooks Webb has been introduced as the new Public Works Director. He brings over 30 years of experience in public works, infrastructure management, and municipal operations, having previously served as the Public Works Director for the City of Laramie, Wyoming. In Laramie, he managed a department of 85 employees overseeing engineering, streets, fleet, storm water, GIS, solid waste, and wastewater utilities, and managed capital improvement programs and infrastructure projects.

The commission passed a resolution proclaiming July 25th, 2026, as World Drowning Prevention Day in Cocoa Beach. The proclamation highlights drowning as a leading cause of unintentional injury death globally, particularly affecting children and adolescents, and encourages community action through safety measures like barriers, swimming skills, CPR training, and active supervision.
