Circleville Council Debates and Votes on Bed Tax Allocation, Approves Visitors Bureau Funding and Legal Services Contract
The council discussed and voted on four ordinances related to the transient lodging tax (bed tax). Ordinance 0737 established a visitor center transient occupancy tax fund. Ordinance 0738 reallocated the transient lodging tax, authorizing the mayor to modify the contract with the Pickaway County Visitors Bureau to reflect a 6% allocation starting in 2027. Ordinance 0739 authorized the mayor to enter into a pledge agreement for tourism development services with the Visitors Bureau for calendar year 2026, allocating $100,000 from the general fund. The council ultimately voted 3-3 on Ordinance 0738, causing it to fail. Ordinance 0737 and 0739 passed, and Ordinance 0740, an agreement for legal representation for indigent defendants, also passed. Discussions involved the historical allocation of bed tax funds, the needs of the Visitors Bureau, and comparisons with other counties.
