Hank Cable Sarcoma Foundation Plans 5K Runwalk and Awareness Initiatives
Amy Carpenter of the Hank Cable Sarcoma Foundation discussed upcoming events and the foundation's mission to raise awareness and funds for sarcoma cancer research and support. The foundation organizes monthly events and annual yard sales to support its initiatives. A major event is the Hank Cable Sarcoma Foundation 5K Runwalk scheduled for July 11th, which will be held at Martins Park. The foundation aims to educate the public about sarcoma signs in both humans and animals, and to advocate for legislative changes, including the designation of a sarcoma awareness month. Senator Schaefer played a key role in helping to pass legislation regarding sarcoma awareness. The foundation also aims to connect people with resources and support for those affected by the disease.
Lancaster Police Chief Reports on Community Initiatives, FBI Academy, and Department Activity
Lancaster Police Chief Nick Snyder discussed the department's activities during the first half of the year, highlighting the positive work of officers and upcoming award ceremonies. He mentioned the 'Kids and Cops' day at Ohio University as a successful community engagement event. Chief Snyder also spoke about Police Week, which honors fallen officers and includes a ceremony led by Connie Moyer. He detailed his attendance at the FBI National Academy's executive leadership program in Quantico, Virginia, which he completed over three months and found to be a valuable experience for enhancing leadership skills and bringing new strategies back to Lancaster. The department is implementing spring and summer initiatives focused on increasing police visibility and interaction within neighborhoods to strengthen community connections, which has received positive feedback. Chief Snyder also noted the department's high call volume, handling approximately 78,000 to 80,000 calls for service annually, making it one of the busiest agencies in central Ohio, despite its relatively small community size. The department is also preparing to issue over 20 life-saving awards.
