City Council Approves Annexation of Coburn Road Right-of-Way

City Council Approves $247.6 Million Capital Improvement Program
The City Council reviewed and adopted the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for fiscal years 2026-27 to 2030-31. The program totals $247.6 million, an increase of $10 million from the previous year. A significant portion of the funded program, 66%, is attributed to the wastewater treatment plant expansion and upgrade, made possible by voter approval of low-interest financing. The CIP prioritizes maintenance of existing infrastructure and replacement of critical equipment. Key projects include the Southwest Park construction and the Flock Safe City program. The unfunded list stands at $84.2 million, down from the previous year. The adopted ordinance is 5512.
Residents Urge City Action on Unmaintained Creek Bed and Drainage Issues
During the visitor section of the meeting, residents from the Lake Village edition expressed concerns about the creek bed in their backyard not being maintained by commercial property owners, leading to poor drainage, debris, foul odors, and mosquito breeding. They requested city assistance to clean out the creek and potentially implement better flood control measures like flood ponds, especially with new home construction increasing runoff. The council member for District 3 acknowledged ongoing work with neighbors on these issues.
