ARC of Spokane Celebrates Disability Pride Month and Highlights Community Programs and Advocacy Efforts

The ARC of Spokane, serving Spokane County and Pend Oreille, Ferry, and Stevens counties, is participating in Disability Pride Month by celebrating the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) signed in 1990. They are hosting a 'Bridging Communities Event' on July 25th at Riverfront Park, from 11 AM to 3 PM, where they will have a booth with resources and activities. The ARC offers various community programs focused on inclusivity, including a community center, community inclusion services, supported employment (both individual and group, in partnership with Avista), Rep Payee Services for financial support, and Supported Living programs. Their two thrift store locations on Newport Highway and Aragon in the valley generate proceeds that directly fund their programs, covering operational costs like staffing and overhead. The ARC serves a broad age spectrum, primarily adults aged 18 and older, with members ranging from 18 to 70s, aiming to combat isolation by providing socialization opportunities. They are also advocating for strengthened special education services and caregiver/family supports in the upcoming legislative session. The ARC is encouraging community involvement through volunteering, donations to their thrift stores, and direct financial contributions via their website. They are also planning a legislative kickoff event on September 24th, 2026, at the ARC Community Center, for families to engage with legislators.
