Fox River Trolley Museum's Father's Day Car Show Approved
The village board approved a special event application for the Fox River Trolley Museum's Father's Day car show. The event is scheduled for Sunday, June 21st, 2026. The application was received on May 12th, which was outside the 90-day window, necessitating its placement on the regular agenda rather than the consent agenda. Staff worked with the museum to make necessary changes to the application and will proceed with coordinating with other departments and government entities upon approval.
Axon Contract Approved for Body and Squad Car Cameras, Enhancing Technology and Training
The village board authorized a 10-year contract with Axon Enterprise for body-worn cameras, squad car cameras, and associated licensing, effective from July 2026 to July 2035. This consolidated contract aims to lock in prices and provide additional benefits, including virtual reality training for de-escalation and mental health scenarios, replacement of outdated Cradlepoint internet connection points in squad cars, and a replacement program for body and squad car cameras. The contract also includes Axon Assistant for instant language translation and policy searches, the ability to pull third-party video, and two free license plate reader cameras. The total cost over 10 years is approximately $1.3 million, with initial years maintaining current budgeted prices.
Gilburn Public Library District's 'Touch a Truck' Fair Approved
The village board approved a special event application for the Gilburn Public Library District's 'South Elgin Touch a Truck and Early Learning Fair'. The event is scheduled for July 5th, 2026. Baxter and Woodman Hired for Route 31, Prairie, and Center Street Improvement Oversight
The village board approved a construction engineering service agreement with Baxter and Woodman Incorporated for improvements on Illinois Route 31, Prairie Street, and Center Street. The contract is for a not-to-exceed amount of $74,440. This agreement covers oversight of construction and ensures proper paperwork, following the board's earlier approval of the improvement projects. The budget for this was initially $25,000, but the scope of services changed significantly, including adding a sidewalk, finishing street sections, relocating electrical, and installing decorative sidewalks and poles. The TIF budget will accommodate this cost, and a budget amendment is anticipated to zero out the TIF fund by year-end.
