SeaTac Civic Campus to Evaluate Community Uses and Explore Regional Justice Partnerships
The City Council passed a resolution authorizing the evaluation of community uses for the civic campus and directing the City Manager to explore shared options for regional consolidation of court, police, and justice uses with regional partners. This follows a previous motion to refer the agenda bill to the current meeting. The resolution serves as a starting point for determining which community uses will be incorporated into the civic campus master plan, based on previous community engagement. Identified uses include space for a farmers market, community events, international market celebrations, cafes, restaurants, community support services (housing, employment, immigration), and small business/entrepreneurial support. The city will explore regional justice use consolidation options before committing to placing a justice center on the civic campus site, acknowledging that the selected site is large enough to accommodate it but other options will also be investigated. The decision was approved 4-0.
Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority Chief Brian Carlson Announces Retirement; Deputy Chief Mark Jones Named Successor
Chief Brian Carlson announced his retirement after 33 years in the fire service, including the last three years as Fire Chief for the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority (RFA). He expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him. His board, including Mayor Egal, recommended Deputy Chief Mark Jones as his successor, citing his over 30 years of experience, extensive knowledge of organizational positions, and leadership in various roles. REWA Program Manager Advocates for City Building to Support Small Businesses and Immigrant Communities
Saeed Sadat, Program Manager for REWA (Refugee Women's Alliance), spoke about the potential positive impact of a new City of SeaTac building that could accommodate small businesses and community organizations. City of SeaTac Proposes Major Leadership Overhaul and Recruitment Drive

This includes the addition of a new Deputy City Manager position to oversee administrative services (HR, communications, finance, IT), and a separate Deputy City Manager role for city operations (built environment, parks and recreation, community economic development). The City Manager's direct portfolio will now focus on community safety, justice, human services, and contracts with regional partners. Additionally, recruitments are planned for a City Attorney, Public Works Director, Human Resources Manager, and Communications Manager. The proposal was referred to the Administration and Finance (ANF) committee for further review of position descriptions and compensation.
