Redwood Life Project: Planning Commission Gathers Scoping Comments for EIR on Large-Scale Redevelopment

The Planning Commission held a public scoping meeting to receive comments on the scope and content of the draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Redwood Life project. The project proposes to demolish 20 existing life science buildings and associated parking to construct 11 new life science buildings totaling 2.731 million square feet, a community amenity center, a hotel, and parking garages, on a site located on the northwest portion of Redwood Shores. Concerns raised by the public and commissioners included the project's scale, compatibility with the surrounding neighborhood, potential environmental impacts from the site being a former landfill, sea level rise, traffic, biological resources, building heights, and the range of alternatives to be studied in the EIR. Staff confirmed that all raised issues would be addressed in the EIR, including landfill stability, hazardous materials, water quality, biological resources, traffic, and flight paths.
