Debate Over Financial Transparency of 'Chalk the Block' Event
During the meeting, a significant discussion arose regarding the financial handling and transparency of the 'Chalk the Block' event, particularly concerning cash donations. Council members questioned the treasurer's office about the completeness of records, including cash donations potentially received by parties other than the treasurer. It was clarified that while some cash was received and accounted for, there were questions about Venmo and Cash App donations made to a family member of an organizer. The treasurer emphasized strict protocols for handling city funds and the inadmissibility of Venmo to private accounts. Organizers defended their transparency, stating all funds were tracked in a group chat and accounted for, with some personal funds also being out-of-pocket. Moving forward, the preference for donations is checks made out to the city, and clear processes for event coordination through city administration were discussed.
City of Pottsville to Apply for Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Grant
The City of Pottsville passed a resolution to submit an application for grant funding through the 2026 Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Grant from DCBD to address sustainability at the JFK pool complex, aligning with the parks master plan. The maximum allowable amount of $250,000 is being requested, a significant increase from a previous grant for a sustainability plan which was approximately $43,131. The resolution was modified to include the names and departments of the two designated signers. Additionally, another resolution was passed to submit an application for a DC Multimodal Grant.
Advanced Code Consultants Appointed Interim Building Code Official
The City of Pottsville appointed Advanced Code Consultants as the interim Building Code Official, Zoning Officer, and Property Maintenance Code Officer. This appointment is in response to the resignation of the current BCO, Justin Tresker, to ensure a smooth transition and continued workflow for UCC services. Comprehensive Inspection Agency also expressed interest in being appointed as a BCO to maintain workflow. The council noted that a resolution from the previous year approved multiple vendors for BCO services and will double-check records to confirm if Comprehensive Inspection Agency is already on the approved list.
