Exploring Grant Opportunities for North Pico Rivera Drainage and SCAG Partnership

Councilmember Latta reported on attending Contract Cities and SCAG meetings. At Contract Cities, he found presentations on AI and community engagement useful. At SCAG, he noted the city received an award for sustainability. He also discussed exploring grant money for alternative drainage systems for North Pico Rivera due to flood risks and invited SCAG to present at a future council meeting to discuss grant opportunities. Latta also proposed creating an ad hoc committee to explore AI implementation in improving the permitting application process.
Youth Soccer Teams and World Cup Events Recognized
The city council meeting included recognitions for the Red Mambas soccer team, who secured first place in the Commissioners Cup and area playoff tournaments, finishing in the top four among nine cities in section playoffs. Certificates were awarded to the players, and coaches expressed gratitude to parents and staff. Captains Emma and Galilaia spoke on behalf of the team. The meeting also recognized the "All Stars" team, also performing well in San Diego and representing Pico Rivera. Christian was mentioned for making the US soccer team. A World Spirit Festival is scheduled for the 26th and 27th during the World Cup events.
City Wins Preliminary Injunction Against Unlicensed Business at Epic Hotel
The City of Pico Rivera received a favorable ruling in its legal battle against the owners and operators of an unlicensed business at the Epic Hotel. The Los Angeles County Superior Court granted the city's request for a preliminary injunction, prohibiting unlicensed use of the property at 4335 Rosemead Boulevard, the continued operation of any unlicensed community care facility, residential care facility, drug rehabilitation facility, or similar business, the sale or distribution of controlled medications or mental health services, and any activities violating Pico Rivera's Municipal and Zoning Codes. The city will continue to enforce the court's order to eliminate illegal activities at the location.
Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Sanchez Discusses Contract Cities Conference, Community Events, and Exemplary Public Service
Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Sanchez also attended the California Contract Cities Conference, highlighting sessions on water and regional matters. She attended the Pio Pico Women's Club reorganization and presented certificates. She commended the Purple Heart Monument and Memorial Day ceremony, thanking the staff involved. Additionally, she shared a positive story about Public Works staff professionally filling a resident's pothole outside their assigned duties.
