Ottawa City Council Approves Annual Client Service Agreement with The Horton Group
Mayor Hasty proposed a resolution authorizing the execution of a client service agreement between the city of Ottawa and The Horton Group. This agreement, which expires annually, was a modification from the previous multi-year contract. The change was requested by Horton Group due to their merger with another insurance agency. The council agreed to the annual contract structure. The agreement is to be received and placed on file for public inspection.
Ottawa City Council Highlights Upcoming Community Events and Approves Infrastructure Programs
The council reminded attendees about upcoming community events, including 'Music in the Park' starting June 20th and 'Cruise Night' on June 19th. Commissioner Gay mentioned that on June 13th, there would be the Family Pride Festival, described as a 'pretty big parade' adding to the month's festivals. Ottawa City Council Considers Boneterra Subdivision Annexations and Rezones Property
The council received and placed on file a resolution authorizing the execution of 33 annexation agreements between the city of Ottawa and various property owners in the Boneterra subdivision. A public hearing for these annexation agreements has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 16th, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers. Additionally, the council concurred with the recommendations of the Plan Commission regarding a rezoning request from David and Timothy Richmond for property located at 1780 North 27503rd Road. The parcel will be rezoned from Class D Office Research and Light Industrial to Class Rural District, with a follow-up ordinance to be passed and approved.
May 2026 Public Safety Reports: Police and Fire Department Activity Detailed
The council received the report of the Police Chief for May 2026, which detailed 2,139 squad car calls, 452 arrests including citations, 4 other arrests, 30 jail transports, 3 juvenile referrals, 3 peer jury cases, and 446 notices to appear. Ottawa Central Dispatch handled 953 911 calls and 4,371 administrative calls. The council also received the report of the Fire Chief for May 2026, noting 2 bell alarms, 20 still alarms, 38 activated alarms, 341 medic calls, 7 mutual aid calls, 276 patients, 4 transfers, and 401 total calls. Structure, content, and vehicle losses were reported at zero, with 59 non-resident bills for medical services. The fire department reported 13 hours of emergency overtime.
Ottawa City Council Approves Motor Fuel Tax Funds, Public Alerting System, Pavement Program, and Various Departmental Fees
The council approved a resolution appropriating $715 worth of motor fuel tax funds. They also accepted a quote from Everbridge in the amount of $6,190.30 for the city's public alerting system, to be paid from the general corporate fund. Furthermore, the council accepted, approved, and authorized payment from the general corporate fund for the 2026 Cape Seal program with AC Pavement Striping Company in the amount of $44,595.23. The report of the registrar for May 2026 showed $2,18 collected in fees for certified copies of birth and death certificates. The report of the parking and adjudication fines department for May 2026 was also received and placed on file. The building official's report for May detailed permit and license fees collected totaling $8,500, including fees for building permits, flood plane development permits, pool permits, fence permits, new business registrations, contractor licenses, and electrical permits. Finally, the council accepted, approved, and authorized payment from the general corporate fund for a sidewalk program totaling $3,429.63 for May 2026.
