City to Investigate Sewage Backups; Sump Pump Connections Suspected

In response to Mr. Zevon's concerns about sewage backups, city staff (Brian) discussed the city's sewer check valve program. Mr. Zevon described his system with a gate valve and a manually operated flapper check valve. City engineer Jordan explained that while they had separated storm and sanitary sewers in the area in 2017, the backup could potentially be caused by sump drains or tile drains being pumped into the sanitary sewer, referencing similar issues in other subdivisions. The city plans to televise and clean the sewer lines in the area again to check for blockages and identify any sump pump connections. They also discussed ejector pump ordinances and the possibility of smoke tests to identify illegal connections.
