Human Resources Reports on Recent Hires and Open Fire Chief Position
The Human Resources Director provided an update on recruitment efforts. Since the memo date, three regular positions were filled in May. Additionally, three positions were scheduled to start or had already started in June: a fire administrative assistant, a public works maintenance worker, and an office specialist. The fire chief position has been posted, with applications accepted until July 1st.
City Council Approves Comprehensive Plan Amendment for Future Land Use Map
The City Council considered an ordinance to amend the future land use map of the Live on Alaska 2040 Comprehensive Plan. The Plan Commission had previously held a public hearing and unanimously approved the amendment. The ordinance, identified as 1855-2026, was brought before the council for a decision. A motion to approve the ordinance was made and seconded, and after a brief confirmation of no further discussion, the motion carried.
Agents Appointed for Alcohol Licenses at Nom Sips and Eats and Target
The committee approved the appointment of agents for alcohol licenses. Samantha Kramer was appointed for Butternut Coffee Road Truck LLC (DBA Nom Sips and Eats) at 100 Iran Street. Angela Lawrence was appointed for Target Corporation (DBA Target store T0620) at 9400 State Road 16. The motion was made by Alder Tom Smith and seconded by Alder James Hoyek (Witchik).
Police Department Provides Update on Alcohol Compliance Checks
An update was provided on alcohol compliance checks completed by the An Alaska Police Department. No action was required on this item, as it was for informational purposes only. Questions regarding the memo should be directed to Chief Berg.
Omni Center Financials Show Surplus and Improved Revenue Performance
The committee reviewed the Omni Center's 2026 financial report through April 30th, 2026. Total revenues were $86, with 55.39% remaining for budgeted revenues, which is ahead of the 2025 pace (57.86% at the same time). The report noted the inclusion of first-quarter room tax dollars as an operating transfer. Total year-to-date expenditures were $315,958, with 62.67% remaining, also ahead of the 2025 pace (61.16%). A surplus was noted for the Omni Center through April 30th. Despite a typical summer slowdown, the Omni Center's financial outlook is positive. The committee approved the financial report.
