Published: Jul 13, 2026
Road Paving Projects Underway for Linwood Avenue and John Circle Neighborhood
The town is moving forward with road paving projects. Linwood Avenue paving will be completed by the fall, with work commencing after the July fireworks. Eversource is scheduled to begin work in the John Circle neighborhood on Thursday, potentially ahead of schedule, for curb-to-curb or half-road repairs. The town will backfill any areas not completed by Eversource. The town manager confirmed that agreements are in place to ensure these roads are addressed this construction season. A completion target date for Linwood Avenue paving is aimed for before school starts, though not guaranteed.
Community Health Worker Position Affirmed to Expand Services
The Board of Selectmen affirmed Sheila Elliott as a part-time community health worker for BVPPH. This position is seen as crucial for expanding services within the eight BVPPH communities, addressing a growing need. Elliott brings extensive experience in human services, and her part-time role will augment the existing full-time position.
Appointments to Key Town Committees and Commissions
Several appointments were made to town committees and commissions. Pascal Zayas was re-appointed to the Playground and Recreations Commission, expressing a desire to ensure parks are safe spaces for the community. Matthew Kalinowski was appointed to the Conservation Commission, noted for his interest in conservation and the environment. Elizabeth Eliza Baudry was appointed to the Open Space and Recreation Plan implementation committee, bringing experience in implementing new processes. Selectman Russell Collins and Richard Saswell were appointed to the bylaw review committee. Sheila Elliott was affirmed as a part-time community health worker for BVPPH, aiming to expand services within eight communities.
Town Approves Sale and Development of Providence Road Property for Senior Housing and Park
The Board of Selectmen discussed and voted to approve the disposition of town property located at Providence Road, identified as assessor map 14, parcel 17 (22 acres). This followed a Request for Proposals (RFP) process initiated after authorization at the 2025 fall annual town meeting (Article 8). BKR Realty Development, LLC was the sole respondent, offering $100,000. Their proposal includes developing approximately 5 acres for senior housing and dedicating the remainder to a municipal park with amenities such as a playground, pavilion, walking trails, and sport courts. The development also aligns with the town's housing production plan and open space initiatives. The sale is contingent upon a land development agreement and securing local approvals. The project, named 'Pot View Commons', is estimated to be completed within five to six years, with MEPA review starting first.
Appointments and Development Plans Advance Park and Recreation Initiatives
During the Board of Selectmen meeting, several appointments were made related to parks and recreation. Pascal Zayas was re-appointed to the Playground and Recreations Commission, citing the importance of safe park spaces for the community and his prior involvement with Linwood Parks. The proposed development on Providence Road includes the creation of a municipal park with amenities like a playground, pavilion, walking trails, and sport courts, which aligns with the town's open space and recreation initiatives. Additionally, Selectman Pagumian inquired about the public accessibility of the proposed park and was assured it would be conveyed back to the town for all residents' use, with adequate parking planned.
