North St. Paul Approves Update and Funding for New 750,000-Gallon Water Tower
The council received an update on the new water tower project, which is being funded by reallocated funds of $4.5 million from the community center. The project aims to address a known deficiency in water storage capacity, identified in previous comprehensive plans. The chosen tower type is a composite tower, recommended for its lower life-cycle cost and maintenance requirements compared to traditional steel towers. The new tower will be constructed at Tower Park, adjacent to the existing north tower, allowing the old tower to remain operational during construction. The project timeline anticipates design work in 2027 and construction in 2028, with potential pre-work starting in 2026. The new tower will increase storage capacity from 300,000 gallons to 750,000 gallons. Discussions also covered potential impacts on park amenities, the need for thorough testing and disinfection protocols, opportunities for aesthetic enhancements, and the management of existing cellular infrastructure on the current tower.
